If you’re retired from service and use Allstate for coverage, it’s worth calling and asking about a military discount.
To determine if the deal is available where you live, call the Allstate customer service phone number at 1-800-255-7828.

Allstate does not advertise how much you save by earning the military discount. This deal typically skims 5% to 15% off your entire policy and usually extends to your immediate family members.
Some sources claim a 25% military discount from Allstate exists in Louisiana since regional laws require car insurance companies to provide active military and their families a 25% discount on their policies. Unfortunately, retired service members do not meet the regional eligibility requirements.
Car insurance companies sometimes offer a discount to members of affiliated military groups, like the American Military Retirees Association. However, Allstate does not currently provide a membership or group discount to its drivers.
The company has about 30 other discounts you could earn, some of which are stackable. Depending on how many you get, you may see a more significant rate reduction than the one you’d get from a military or veteran discount from a different insurance company.

Does Allstate offer a veteran discount in Louisiana?
The Louisiana Department of Insurance established law — under Louisiana Statute RS 22:1482 and State Title 37, Part 13, Chapter 95, Regulation 81 — requiring all car insurance companies to offer a 25% military discount to qualifying consumers and immediate family members on the same policy.
Louisiana is currently the only state with this regional law in place, but this discount is not applicable for veterans according to the qualification guidelines.
To receive the 25% military car insurance discount in Louisiana, you must be on full-time active duty.
You also must be a resident of the state, purchase your policy in Louisiana, and meet specific residency requirements. You either need to live in the state, or your family must reside in Louisiana if you’re stationed somewhere else. Unfortunately, it does not offer a rate reduction for retired service members.
How do Allstate veteran discounts compare to other car insurance companies?
Allstate may not give you a military discount if you’re a veteran depending on where you live. Only a few insurance companies offer specific veteran discounts or military discounts for veteran status and active duty.
Of the major providers, Geico and Safeco advertise a veteran discount or allow retired persons to qualify for the military discount in most regions. Sources suggest that veterans may also be eligible for a military discount from Progressive and Farmers, depending on your location.
USAA only serves military families and offers lower than average rates. So while an actual military discount does not exist, the rate reduction is already built into the quote. Armed Forces Insurance also exclusively sells coverage to the military community and has several perks and discounts veterans may earn, with options varying by state.
However, Liberty Mutual and SafeAuto only award military discounts to folks on active duty. State Farm does not offer any military rate reductions.
To find the most savings on your auto insurance policy as a veteran, compare insurance rates and discounts from several companies. You may find you save more from a company like Allstate, which does not technically offer a veteran discount.

How else can veterans save money on car insurance?
More ways exist to save on army veterans’ auto insurance than merely acquiring a military discount.
You might consider reducing your coverage levels to meet the minimum requirements in your state, depending on your car type and how often you use it. We also recommend shopping around and comparing rates from multiple companies online.
Some places may not offer a veteran discount, but you might qualify for more rate reductions, leading to cheaper car insurance rates.
You can save on your insurance costs during deployment with certain companies if you’re on active duty. If you store your vehicle in a safe place while you are away, ask your insurance company about reducing your coverage levels and lowering rates. You might be able to obtain a comprehensive-only policy that will protect your vehicle from damage while parked, including animal damage, vandalism, floods, theft, and fire.
Some states allow you to suspend your insurance policy while deployed. Although this will save you the most money, it could be risky if your vehicle incurs damage or theft during your absence.
If you cancel your policy outright, you risk a coverage lapse, leading to increased costs in the future.
Consider familiarizing yourself with the Service Members Civil Relief Act, which provides financial protection while on active duty. This law could extend to protecting your insurance policies while serving abroad.
Allstate Auto Insurance Discounts for Veterans: The Bottom Line
Unfortunately, veteran discounts for auto insurance are not as typical as the rate reductions awarded to active military personnel. Allstate may not offer a military discount applicable to veterans in all states. Still, it provides several other deals that may meet or exceed the savings you’d earn from a typical veteran discount when combined.
So it’s always worth checking with an Allstate insurance agent to determine the available discounts.
While many sources claim veterans can earn the 25% military discount required by law in Louisiana, retired personnel do not meet the legal guidelines.
All companies offer different discount styles with varying levels of savings and unique qualification rules. Put in some time to comparison shop and ask each company representative about every rate reduction that may apply to your policy to find out how much you can save.
